Project license: https://github.com/mrdoob/three.js/blob/r180/LICENSE Official example: https://github.com/mrdoob/three.js/blob/r180/examples/misc_controls_fly.html earth-day.jpg Source: https://raw.githubusercontent.com/mrdoob/three.js/r180/examples/textures/planets/earth_atmos_2048.jpg 2048 x 1024, JPEG RGB, 512606 bytes. Earth surface color; use sRGB decoding. earth-night.png Source: https://raw.githubusercontent.com/mrdoob/three.js/r180/examples/textures/planets/earth_lights_2048.png 2048 x 1024, PNG RGB, 734910 bytes. City light color; use sRGB decoding. earth-clouds.png Source: https://raw.githubusercontent.com/mrdoob/three.js/r180/examples/textures/planets/earth_clouds_1024.png 1024 x 512, indexed PNG with 256 alpha levels, 260222 bytes. Use its actual alpha channel; suitable for a lightweight transparent cloud shell. earth-specular.jpg Source: https://raw.githubusercontent.com/mrdoob/three.js/r180/examples/textures/planets/earth_specular_2048.jpg 2048 x 1024, JPEG RGB, 223421 bytes. Specular data: bright ocean, dark land. Treat as linear data, not sRGB color. NASA CLOUD COMPOSITE (HIGHER RESOLUTION ALTERNATIVE) earth-clouds-2048.jpg Source: https://eoimages.gsfc.nasa.gov/images/imagerecords/57000/57747/cloud_combined_2048.jpg 2048 x 1024, JPEG RGB without alpha, 829367 bytes. Unchanged source image. Use brightness as the cloud opacity mask; white clouds, black clear areas. Source record: NASA Visible Earth, Blue Marble: Clouds, published 2002-02-11. https://visibleearth.nasa.gov/images/57747/blue-marble-clouds/77558l (The old Visible Earth record now redirects to NASA Earth Observatory.) NASA media usage guidelines: https://www.nasa.gov/nasa-brand-center/images-and-media/ NASA imagery is used as geographic information. No NASA endorsement is implied. ORIENTATION AND LIMITATIONS All textures use a 2:1 equirectangular layout: north at the top, south at the bottom; west to east from left to right; Greenwich at the horizontal center; the 180-degree meridian at the left/right seam. This is the ordinary Three.js SphereGeometry/TextureLoader convention (default texture flipY=true). These surface, light and cloud maps are historical composites. They do not represent live satellite observations or current cloud/weather conditions. The renderer may calculate the day/night boundary from the current UTC time; that calculation does not make the texture maps live imagery. Checksums, exact source URLs and byte sizes are retained in download-manifest.json.
